Taking Back Control of Your Time

When you have the control over your time, you get to make the choice that feels good for the season that you are in. So many people feel like they want to work less because they are not in control of their time, not necessarily because they actually want to work less. As soon as you alleviate your financial stressors and you’re working with clients that you actually want to be working for, your motivation to work will return! We’ve seen this happen with clients of ours in the past, and we’ve personally experienced it ourselves.

There will be seasons where you want to work less hours because you need a break, and during those times it is so important to take the time off that you need. But if you love what you do, then there will also be times where you want to work extra hours, and during those times you should be able to do that without feeling pressure from external sources. It’s all about taking back control!

Why Charging Per Hour Is Not A Good Strategy

Are you one of the many people who are charging clients based on the amount of time you are spending on a project? The problem with this is that as you improve your service offering, it will take you less and less time to complete a project, which equals less and less money. With this model, you end up penalizing yourself for getting better at what you do. That makes no sense to us! Instead, you should think about your prices in terms of the problem you’re solving, rather than about the amount of time you’re spending.

Finding Fulfillment In Your Work

There is nothing wrong with your work being a big part of your identity. It shouldn’t be something that defines your sense of self worth, but you shouldn’t ever feel guilty for finding joy and fulfillment through your job. We know that the forced separation between work and personal identities has caused a lot of guilt in the past; people who love their jobs feel guilty about not spending enough time with their families, and vice versa. We speak from experience when we say that it is possible to shed yourself of that guilt, and make space in your life for everything that fills your cup! Again, it all comes down to taking back control of your time.

Benefits of Learning How To Rest

Sometimes, when we have the ability to rest, we resist it because of all the things we are implicitly taught that it’s supposed to be. It’s common for people to wear their busyness as a badge of honor, and to continue to do things they don’t enjoy because societal pressure has made them feel as though they should be doing them. We want to give you permission to rest, really take time off, because being burnt out isn’t beneficial to anyone. We took an 18 month break, and our business grew a lot! Of course, that’s not going to happen to everyone, but we can tell you for a fact that you can earn a full time income working part time hours!
