Sales Isn’t Your Problem, Here’s What Is

Episode 743: Show Notes

We see so many business owners who think that the answer to scaling is more about cash than relationships. Yes, cash is a component but it is not the primary problem! First of all, we want to talk about growth versus scaling. They are used interchangeably in this industry but they simply are not the same. Growth is primarily centered around financial and revenue changes in your business and scaling is more about the actual behind-the-scenes operations of how your business is pieced together.

Often, when people try to scale their business they are so focused on growing their revenue that they forget about all the foundational pieces that are required in order for the revenue to grow. When you put the time and energy into these architectural pieces, you will be surprised at how quickly the revenue growth follows. You can kind of think of these things as the SOP for how you’re doing business; how the business as a whole is being operated and you need to define what that looks like. We find that people get to a certain point where they hit a type of sales cycle and our goal is to help you scale past this point by productizing literally everything!

Taking Your Company Culture to the Next Level

We never realized how much project management would change based on the number of people we had in the business. Things can work perfectly fine at a certain point and then you hire new employees and everything changes. You literally need to change everything as you expand your team and you need to make sure that your relationships are healthy and have boundaries. We really enjoy focusing on the things that help run the entire business. When you start hiring people you need to be clear on what their job descriptions are and train them accordingly.

We want you to look at the thing you want to achieve overall that is consistent with every role in the business so that you can take control of your company’s narrative in a really positive way. Every business has some sort of culture but you need to put definitions behind those subconscious things and pick apart your mission, vision, values, and what those things mean. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to know what all of these things are in great detail because sometimes you won’t know until somebody breaks a boundary and that’s just part of the process.

Coaching Your People

We want you to show up as a coach and help your people grow their skillset. You will be so surprised by how much is possible and how much it will keep your staff interested in their positions even if the goals aren’t changing from month to month. You will be able to push them in healthy ways without breaking boundaries or crossing professional lines. We want to remind you that it can take months and months for a person to feel fully capable and competent in the role they were originally given and we want to encourage you to monitor that person’s progress in alignment with their role’s description. You don’t need to give staff 100% of their responsibilities from the get-go and sometimes they will need more coaching in certain aspects.

Why You Need to Show Up as the CEO

It’s so easy, as you grow and add more people to your business, to get overly focused on your day-to-day. You often have multiple roles in your own business and you have to figure out when you’re showing up in your job or as a CEO or as an owner and you need to define how different all of those roles are. Today we are talking very specifically about showing up as the CEO. You are going to play various roles in the business but when it comes to these things, you have to put your CEO hat on, and other times, you need to flip to the other hats you have to wear.

If any of these things have overwhelmed you and you feel like you want to break through the ceiling but don’t know how to, you need to remember that you don’t need to know the answer and we want to help you figure it out! There aren’t many female business owners who get to this point so we want to congratulate you on the incredible place you have managed to get to. Remember that it is okay to find the support you need to figure this out fully. That is why we developed C-Suite on Demand and we want to talk to you and help you through this so go schedule a time to chat with us!
